Troop Communications
Communication is important to maintain a well running troop. E-mail has proven to be the most effective way to communicate with the Scoutmaster though you should feel free to pick up the phone and give him a call.
A Scout Responsibility
Each Scout is responsible to know what is going on in the troop. They should take notes at troop meetings and inform others as appropriate. They should learn to plan ahead and ask questions. Parents may act as a safety net in order to minimize their own stress. Parents should be careful not to remove the responsibility from their Scout as this is an important learning aspect of Scouting.
Chain of Command
The troop uses the chain of command. The Senior Patrol leader is responsible for troop duties and must keep Patrol Leaders informed The SPL may assign duties to others or they must do them themselves Patrol Leaders are responsible for patrol duties and must keep patrol members informed Patrol Leaders may assign duties to others or do them themselves Troop members should follow the chain of command to resolve problems Patrol Leader (Troop Guide) to Senior Patrol Leader to Scoutmaster
New Scouts
New Scouts should talk first to their Patrol Leaders, then their Troop Guide if they have problems. Assistant Scoutmasters are assigned to each new Scout patrol and may be freely used as a resource for new Scouts.
Go To The Source
If there is someone assigned to an event or a merit badge class, go directly to them. The Scoutmaster is not omniscient.
Troop Roster
The troop roster will tell you the names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of all troop members. The troop uses Troopmaster software to keep all troop records. It easily generates troop rosters. See our Datamaster, Bob Gamble, anytime your information changes or you need an updated roster. We will not post these things on the internet due to security concerns.
